Jonesin’

Okay, so here’s the thing, I quit smoking six days ago and while it’s going really well and I know I’m going to be successful this time I’m really kind of spacy and antsy and just plain stupidish and I’m finding it hard to finish a complete………
What was I saying?
Well, so, I keep trying to post something here, but I’m giving it up for a little while. I’m just going to do tiny updates on facebook until I’m multisyllabic again. Won’t you join me?
Hey…”multisyllabic.” Why, that was multisyllabic!

Impressive!! “Multisyllabic”!!
Hang in there. It really does get easier. Are you using the patch or any medication to help with the cravings? I did (Wellbutrin) and that’s what worked for me! I NEVER thought I could do it but it’s been almost 10 years now!! Wow!
So, if I counted right (and I believe I did), “multisyllabic” is like five syllables- six if you’re southern. That must mean there’s still hope for me, right?
I did Wellbutrin and quit for six years once. Tried it again, and it was not a good experience. This time, I’m using the patch, and it’s really going well! I still get nicotine, but I’m changing all of the behaviors and patterns, which is what does me in, I think. I’m probably going to keep patching for a few months, and just gradually lower the dosage. For some reason, I just know that this time it’s going to work, no doubt about it!
You should be extremely proud of yourself! 10 years is fantastic!

Good luck.
Oh holy shit, Don. I clicked on your link and burst out laughing. I am so adding you to my blogroll. Unless you have some kind of problem with that.
(Oh, and thank you!)

GOOD JOB!!
Wellbutrin (aka zyban I think) did it for me too.
Thanks amandalinn! I think Wellbutrin is generic Zyban. It really worked for me at one point, too.

My parents quit using some sort of orange juice therapy back in the early 60s. I did a similar thing when I quit. Drank TONS of orange juice – apparently the citric acid replaces the nicotine acid in your system. Also, I drank everything through a straw and sucked on a ton of sunflower seeds. Did a TON of housecleaning and crafts to keep my hands busy. Writing or typing would work for you in that regard.
Good for you for quitting!
I’ve heard about the orange juice, but see? I can’t do the straw thing because of my lip-line-o-phobia, another reason for wanting to quit smoking. I’m even trying to give up whistling!
I’m mostly working off nervous energy by walking and doing the Gazelle. I should weigh about thirteen pounds right now, but unfortunately, my metabolism doesn’t agree. Still, I love feeling so healthy. And I will get some OJ.

Monosyllabic is also multisyllabic.
You know what is very, very strange? I have the most addictive personality of anyone and get addicted to just about anything I like. But I never did get really addicted to cigarettes. I only ever smoked the occasional cigarette back when I was drinking, and then in rehab I almost picked it up because all but maybe .05% of people there smoked, and it gave me something to do. But after I got out I never smoked again. Not even weed, LOL.
Anyway, I know that it is the most addicting thing for many people, and I can totally understand that. I’m sure it has to do with the habits and behaviors because the only time I wanted to smoke was during the times that other events added up to where I felt like it. But home and sober, well, never did pick it up. Good luck! I’m sure you can do this! You already are!
Wow. Reading this, I think that if you can quit all your addictions, I can surely eradicate this one. I think I did the opposite– never got addicted to drugs or alcohol– just nicotine. And coffee. And sugar. Okay, when they start making coffee patches, I’ll give that one up– in the meantime, I think this is my tenth smoke free day!

Well done! I’m a former smoker too and know how hard it is to get the habit out of the system. The nicotine is gone from the system in 72 hours (or so I’ve been told) but the habitual desire lingers on and on…years, in my case. I had to keep reminding myself I don’t smoke anymore.
If you don’t want to try the straw thing, try inhaling deeply and slowly. It has the same effect. And just think of all the $$$$$ you’ll save! Keep up the good fight.
Hi, (((Ella))) and thanks! I’m going to get some straws, and I think I’ll cut them down to ciggie size. Great idea!
